Halloween Ride on Push Mountain Road

Push Mountain Road was beckoning us on Halloween this year. It was a beautiful sunny, blue skies, and 70F day. After a few phone calls we met up at Doc’s house at headed out for another great ride on Push Mountain Road (AR 341). The colors were still spectacular (sorry you northerners) and the traffic nonexistent. As we meandered through some county roads on the way to Push Mountain Road we were accompanied by one of the largest mules I ever saw as he seemed to think he owned the road. It was great for a laugh and pictures. Only in Arkansas.

We came in from Mountain Home so we started the Push Mountain Road run from the north. We pulled over just past the White River to sit a spell and enjoy a beautiful day and the wonderful autumn scenery. Then we pushed on, completely owning the road as there was literally no other traffic out that day. Besides the challenge of the hairpin turns and elevation changes the best thing about this ride the absence of traffic. One thing everyone I know who frequently rides Push Mountain Road will tell you is that it never gets old.

We were all enjoying a nice leisurely ride, Joe was filming the ride for us, and we stopped in to visit Chuck and his dog Cooper at his Crossroads store. We put some videos of the ride on YouTube. You can check them out HERE.

Riding this beautiful road in the paradise that is the Arkansas Ozarks is wonderful any time of the year. In the summer you can find little pieces of heaven where the trees provide a shady haven to cool your heals. Spring rides are abundant with wild flowers dotting the landscape. But, my favorite time of the year to ride this road is in the fall with brilliant, vivid foliage surrounding you.

Push Mountain Road has so many curves in the 25 mile run it’s not worth trying to count them. But what makes this ride a great time is the people you meet from all over the country who have come to Arkansas for the great Arkansas motorcycle trips. Rarely are you ever alone on a summer trip on this famous motorcycle route.

You will run into street bikes flying by you at 120 MPH or more, making you feel like you are standing still. I personally enjoy cruising, either on my trike or on my chopper. I like to ride Push Mountain Road at 45 to 50 MPH and enjoy all the mountain has to offer. As you go south on P.M.R. and head over the mountain you will end up in the town of Big Flat.

Heading east will take you into the quaint little town of Mountain View. There is a small downtown area with a variety of small shops to kill some time in. Throughout most of the year they have music going on every Friday and Saturday night. Sorry no bars, as the county is dry. They do have 3 to 4 bike gatherings a year, with an occasional bike show. Just the thought of it all makes me want to jump on my bike and do it all over again. HERE is a map of the road.
